As a U.K. based reviewer, I rarely get the opportunity to work with authors.
So when Ink Road Books agreed for me to be on the UK Blog Tour for Crown of Feathers, I begged for the chance to contact Nicki – I already knew I would love her book, more than anything. Phoenixes have always been my soul animal, and my love for them burns eternal in my heart.
I had to make my questions super-unique, as I wanted to treat you guys to an insight into Nicki’s mind- and here is what I came up with!
P.S: CROWN OF FEATHERS WAS AMAZING. I READ IT IN ONE SITTING. ASKSKSKKKSS IT WAS SO FREAKING GOOD!!
FIRE: If you had the power to control one element, which would you choose?
Probably water, I think. I love the ocean, and my zodiac sign is cancer, which is a water sign.
PHOENIX: If you could have one mythical creature (other than a phoenix) as a companion, which would you choose?
I would like Toothless the Night Fury from How To Train Your Dragon 🙂
MAGIC: Other than elemental power, if you could have wake up one day (still in our universe!) to have a magical power, what would you want it to be?
I think teleportation sounds awesome. I could travel the world but still sleep in my own bed.
SISTERS: Your book heavily features sisterhood, what’s one other fictional sister-duo you love?
I love the sister relationships in Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. I particularly loved the history of the Blue Queen and Daphne we got in the most recent book, Two Dark Reigns.
ROYALTY: If you could rule over one fictional universe, which would you choose?
I would sit on the Iron Throne of Westeros.
SKY: What time of day do you think the sky is usually prettiest?
I love the perfect, clear blue of a hot summer morning.
DUOLOGY: What is your favourite duology?
Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom
DISGUISE: Which fictional character from any book, movie or TV series do you think is the true ‘master of disguise’?
Probably Arya Stark from Game of Thrones—after her apprenticeship with the Faceless Men, of course, though she made a fine boy in the earlier seasons, too.
WAR: Which fictional fantasy war-based story do you think has been the most dramatic?
Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire is really a fascinating look at war, past and present.
ASHES: What book do you (respectfully) dislike? One that just wasn’t for you? Why?
I can’t read any of the classics. Catcher in the Rye. Slaughterhouse Five. 1984. Great Gatsby. Never knew what was happening in Shakespeare, either.
REBORN: Without spoilers, if you could rewrite the ending of ANY book, which would you choose?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I never liked the epilogue, or a certain ginger-haired person’s death.
Don’t worry Nicki, I hated that Harry Potter death too. IT BROKE ME.
Just like her book! I can’t stop thinking about it- and if you love sisterhood, flaming birds and soul-bonded creatures, then this is the perfect book for you. Animal magic seems to have worked on me, because I feel incredibly loyal Nicki already and I am totally ready to pick up every single book she puts out.
Which just goes to show how amazing a job she’s done with Crown of Feathers.
She really has set my heart ablaze.
