This is a post I hope to make every 3 months, because the idea of waiting until December sounds absolutely tortuous and I neeeeed to speak about some of these books now!
I’ve been trying to decide whether I should choose my top 10 favourite books from the last 3 months, or just dive on in and see what number I get to. I don’t really want to limit my decision, so I’ll just be listing off pretty much every 5 star read from this year!
(And it’s a been a good one, brimming with awesome new releases!)
I read a total of 12 books in the first month of the year, two trilogies and quite a few standalones/they’re-sequels-are-not-already-out-and-it-breaks-my-heart.
For the books that I received for review, I have FULL reviews which will be appearing on my blog shortly! But, for now, you can just enjoy my quick descriptions of each book as I try to convince you to pick them up.
YOU NEED TO PICK THEM UP!
Book 1) The Last Namsara
Telling stories is illegal.
Writing this would be illegal.
In a world where a story-telling assassin meets dragons, only one creature can be left standing.
Book 2) Royal Bastards
And a group of friends battling against the elements to get to safety.
Book 3) Children of Blood and Bone
Five words: Fantasy based on African Mythology.
(VIEW MY FULL REVIEW ON MY MAIN MENU!)
Book 4) The Belles
You aren’t born beautiful, you are given it.
And she has the power to give it.
Book 5) To Kill a Kingdom
The Little Mermaid.
But full of murder.
(FULL REVIEW TO APPEAR ON MY SITE SOON!)
Book 6) Reign The Earth
Dating royalty is always difficult.
Especially when you have an illegal magic power.
But no biggie, right?
Book 7) The Love Interest
THIS BOOK DESERVES MORE THAN A COUPLE OF SENTENCES.
THIS BOOK DESERVES HOURS AND HOURS OF MY ATTENTION, AND I SUSPECT I’LL PROBABLY HAVE A FULL REVIEW UPCOMING
B U T:
The Love Interest isn’t your typical romance.
There is no perfect match made in heaven.
There is no instant-attraction.
And when two guys competing for the same girl start to spend time together?
Everything falls apart.
Book 8) American Panda
This book gave me such an important insight into cultural differences, anxiety and fighting for the things you love!
Book 9) People Like Us
I NEVER READ THRILLERS/MURDER MYSTERIES.
If I randomly want to, I’ll always turn to BBC Sherlock to get out my detective side, but thIS BOOK.
Glorious and strangely like gossip-girls, this boarding-school murder mystery collided all my secret obsessions.
Unashamed bi-sexuality, and flirtation.
Lots and lots of flirtation.
Book 10) The Traitor’s Game
This new fantasy book is by a beloved author of mine, so I knewww I had to pick it up in its release month. SO I DID.
AND YOU SHOULD TO.
I PROMISE YOU WON’T REGRET IT.
Book 11) The Queen’s Rising
Endings aren’t always as they should be.
(That’s all I can say about this one without spoiling it sO)
Book 12) Starfish
Beautiful and whimsical, Starfish completely stole my heart more than I expected it to.
It deals with anxiety, body confidence and not always getting what you wanted.
It’s exactly what I wanted.
SO THAT’S IT.
12 glorious 5 star reads all crammed into one post.
12 books that, out of the 30 I’ve read in 2018, will stay with me forever.
